MBA Student - Emily Guido
I have this last assignment to do for Leadership class. This was the first class in my MBA program. I learned a lot.
In my preclass posting, I stated: "I think of myself as a leader, but I have never had a real supervisory role. I mean, I supervise Student Workers and my Husband and my cats, but that is about it."
In my post-class reflection, I feel that I have come out of the class about the same. Nevertheless, I recognize now that leadership has a lot of different definitions than it did before the class.
I will be able to use what I have learned at my current job, and in my future jobs. I realize that I have a lot of work to do with chaotic situations. I found that need a lot of work in handling crisis professional situations.
On the other hand, I am outspoken and very good at brainstorming! I realized this while we were working on our team projects.
All in all this post-class reflection has a positive spin and the skills that we learned in this class will help me!

Well it's MBA Leadership time folks!

MBA - What the heck? I just graduated with my Bachelor's and now my brain has to get back into the soup again! Well, no rest for the wicked I guess. My first class is Leadership. Now, from the first class we had, it seems that I am going to have my hands full.
I think of myself as a leader, but I have never had a real supervisory role. I mean, I supervise Student Workers and my Husband and my cats, but that is about it. Believe me the Students are much easier to supervise. I care a lot about the customer, and I can get testy if they are not getting the care they need. I am hoping that with more training and studying, I can put what I learn to practice.
I guess what I am trying to say is that to be an effective leader, you have to show the people you work with fairness, skill ability, honesty, constructive criticism, and team mentality. Now, my idea of Leadership may be soft compared to most out there because more often or not we have had all the bad leaders and bosses, you know what I mean? Mean seems to sell; nastiness seems to get attention; bad skill set seems to get people promoted. I would like to be effective in leading but I tell you, if I have to end up like the guy in Glengarry Glen Ross, I would rather work at a dead-end job doing something that leaves me out of feeding frenzy of the shark tank. However, some people trive on situations like that. Walk into a brokerage, you can just smell the cortisol pumping! I could go on and on. I guess in my little corner of the world, I will TRY to be a leader that I would like to have.
